Our relationships with our earthly fathers were designed to reflect our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Sadly, the reality of sin means that many of us have relationships with our dads fraught with pain, disappointment, or absence. This devotional consists of ten sections which point to God’s perfect display of fatherhood toward us as His children. Scripture readings, reflection questions, and prayers help to reveal His loving heart. If your relationship with your earthly father is marked by heartache, or if you need a rich reminder of the goodness of the Lord, 40 Days to God, My Father will be a balm to your soul.

More from Rosann
40 Days to God, My Father was born out of a difficult season with my pastor-father’s struggle with substance abuse. As I walked through the painful circumstances with my earthly father, I found myself grappling with trusting God as a good Father. I sensed the Lord inviting me on a journey to know Him as my One True Father. It was through reading the Scriptures––where I saw the Lord’s character revealed––prayer, and reflection that I found my trust restored.
I want to share the same truths I found with others who may be doubting the goodness of the Lord. Assuredly, He is the perfect Father each of us desperately needs. I pray readers will come away from the book knowing that He is faithful, loving, and kind.
Interview with the Author
- What does success as an author look like to you?
I define success as reaching people with a message of hope. I’m not shooting for a bestseller list (although that would be outstanding), but I want my words to meet readers in their struggles and assure them they’re not alone––Christ is with them. If one person is strengthened, encouraged, and comforted by the truth of the goodness of the Lord, then I’ve done my job. This is a success for me.
- What inspired this book?

- Which author influenced you the most?
This is a tough question for me to answer because many authors have influenced me over the years. But if I have to choose one, it would be Elisabeth Elliot. I discovered her writing in my college days and continued to read her works. I appreciated her vulnerability, willingness to tackle painful topics, and ultimately point to Christ as our source for every need. She was not only a talented writer, but a wonderful encourager. I desire to do the same.
- What is your favorite Bible verse or life verse?
My favorite Bible verse would depend on what circumstance I’m walking through. But if I choose the first verse that pops into my mind, it would be Psalm 16:11: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” This verse reminds me of the Lord’s leading, joy, and pleasures for now and eternity as I abide in Him. It’s comfort for every circumstance.
- What would you like your readers to get out of this book?
I want readers of this devotional to find comfort in knowing that the Lord is good. 40 Days to God, My Father is divided into ten sections, with each section highlighting one of God’s characteristics. The Lord has proven Himself a good provider, comforter, encourager, and healer. I pray that by the end of the forty day journey through this devotional, readers will be transformed by the truth that God can––and will––supply every need. And know they are never alone!
