Guest Review from Mindy

What an amazing finish to The Fae Dynasty. I honestly didn’t think it would be a duology and expected a third book even nearing the end of the book. But the last 20% of the story moved swiftly and tied everything together in an unexpected and totally delightful way. You do need to read the first book Mortal Queens to be able to dive into this book right away. The fae world was complex and intricate. There was a surprise at every corner but all these surprises formed multiple layers of intrigue and awe for the fae realm as the tale evolved.
Old myths of betrayal and revenge, sacrifice and love converged with the present dealings of Thea, her cohort, and King Bastian. I loved Odette and Talen as Thea’s faithful allies and loved getting to know Eliza, the next Mortal Queen. Thea’s first person voice wavered in regard to Bastian so it was more difficult to get to know him in this second book until the end.
It’s a fast-moving, easy to read, completely engrossing YA fantasy that you will have a hard time putting down once you start. Kudos to Victoria McCombs for another well done series. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Enclave Publishing via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

About the Author

Victoria McCombs is the author of The Storyteller Series, The Royal Rose Chronicles, and The Fae Dynasty duology, with hopefully many more to come. She survives on hazelnut coffee, 20-minute naps, and a healthy fear of her deadlines, all while raising four wildlings with her husband in Omaha, Nebraska.

More from Victoria

This book came differently to me than my other ones.

It was less plot and structure, and more—what kind of book do I want to write?

I wanted riddles for them to solve, which created the Gamemaster character. I wanted a healthy family aspect, which began the process of repairing the relationships I’d burned in book one. And I wanted a character who knew exactly what she wanted and never waivered from that. Other scenes came from these wishes, like the chess game where the players are the chess pieces, and the War of Hearts played in the labyrinth.

Together, I think it blended nicely, and I can’t wait for readers to get ahold of it!
