About the Book

Book Title: The Bible Companion Book 2 Leviticus-Deuteronomy

Author Name: Karen Westbrook Moderow

Genre: Bible Study

Do you struggle to relate to God in the Old Testament?

The Bible Companion Book 2 can help. Its simple one-chapter-a-day format lets you engage with Scripture without the pressure of schedules, homework, or heavy reading loads. Short daily readings and thought-provoking questions help you recognize God’s faithfulness even in your most difficult journey.

Though filled with unfamiliar symbols and rituals, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy hold treasures—the great promises of God. They show us the lengths to which God goes to be in our daily lives. Hard-to-read passages come alive as we travel with Israel to the Promised Land and discover the same God who guided His people in ancient times guides us today. If you want to know what God is like and what matters to Him . . . if you question His love for you . . . if you wonder how believing God can change your life, these books of the Law will speak to you. For personal and group study.

Book Excerpt

Before the law, the Lord showed Himself to individuals here and there. In Leviticus, God declares who He is to a group of people in such a dramatic way that the world hears of it. The miraculous parting of the Red Sea announces His power to save, but the law announces God’s intent to dwell with those He rescues. The lifestyle He ordains is radically different from anything the world has seen before. The law reflects God’s holiness and shows the world what He is like. It also marks those who obey it, declaring they are His.

The law will not save us; only Jesus can do that. But the Ten Commandments, along with the laws following them, set the standards for the kingdom God is building. This kingdom exists within us, on earth, and in the world to come (Ex. 20:2–17). The law assumes our obedience to God will witness of His character and intent. Leviticus also contains one of the most beautiful statements of the church’s mission found in Scripture: “Proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants” (Lev. 25:10). God’s law is not intended to oppress, but to assure freedom and justice for all.
